The London Mets Youth program depends on volunteers to function.  Without the help of parents and other enthusiastic stakeholders, our program could not exist in its current fee format.  We also appreciate that most people would like to help in some way but are unsure how to express an interest.  We hope this page will make it easier to contribute and volunteer.   You can see there is a lot to do!

We have several broad categories where we need your help:

Youth Team Coaching - this in not for everyone as it requires a minimum level of baseball knowledge and technique.  While we aspire to have former high school or university level players, lower levels can provide valuable help in assisting head coaches.  We understand that not everyone can be available every weekend so having assistant coaches will make it easier to manage for teams.  Our aim is for a head coach to be responsible for an age group, learn all the players names and hopefully know most of the families by being present for a great majority of the weekend sessions.  They would be in charge of training planning and game rosters but would rely heavily on help of assistant coaches (ideally 2-3 per age group).  Coaches generally arrive 15-30 minutes before sessions.  DBS required.

School Outreach Coaches - at the Mets we try to engage with the 70 odd local primary schools near Finsbury Park along with others.  We are seeking to establish after-school clubs in schools and need people able to go into a school and teach baseball basics to children using Baseball5 or regular baseball-softball.   Even a few 1-2hr late afternoon sessions could be of immense help to us.  Often the school can pay for coaching as well (c.£40).  DBS required.

Saturday morning prep (clubhouse and field)- our clubhouse always needs a bit of a tidy-up before Saturday sessions.  We typically clean the toilets and tidy up the facilities before families arrive.  We also could use some field help like setting out benches, removing tarps, setting out bases and youth portable pitching mounds, trimming, mowing, watering, repairing adult pitching mound, pand field dragging ahead of time.  We also might paint the lines and put out home run fences too.  This all takes a good bit of time.  Even some help on a few weekends could be of great help to us.

General Admin / website / social media postings-  we could use help in managing and updating our website using Wix as well as creating social media posts, website blogs, and creating flyers for our various events.  In addition, we use a fair amount of email in keeping in touch with members and queries.  We also maintain email lists for general informational emails.

Saturday Catering Manager - we will need some or a few people to manage our catering.  This would involve ordering, buying, and arranging delivery of catering items to Finsbury, along with cooking prep, service, and clean-up.  Definitely a tall job.  As above, even a few sessions of help would be very appreciated.

International Travel Logistics - we typically send a Minors team to the Czech Republic in June for the Supercup tournament and we would like to attend either a French or Spanish club team 12U and 15U tournament in 2024.  Each trip requires a liason person among the club, team, families, and the organising tournament staff not to mention coordinating travel.  Local language skills can be very helpful.

Assistant Youth Director-  We are also seeking a person to act as n2 to the head of the London Mets Youth Program.  This unpaid role would assist the youth director and would potentially attend board meetings with important input to everything happening in the youth program (eg intra club interaction, BBF/LL calls, social media, scheduling, coaching, merchandising, catering help).  DBS required.

Cultural liasons - we aspire reaching out to various communities like Latinos or Japanese where having a club contact able to communicate in Spanish or Japanese can be extremely helpful.

Youth Merchandise Manager - this person will work under the club merchandising head and coordinate with that person.  The role would entail being responsible for ensuring we have a stock of youth jersies and other basics like t-shirts, hoodies, and caps on hand and for sale during weekends.   In addition, the person would liase with our on-line shop when necessary to allow new parents to order kit on-line.   The person would also handle sale of second-hand used items at the clubhouse.

DBS checks will be needed for some of the roles; we'd advise getting a free DBS check through us and BSUK in any case.
